In 2007, JTC Corporation announced the plan to upgrade the Seletar Airport to support the upcoming Seletar Aerospace Park. The plan included lengthening the airport's runway to 1,800 metres and the upgrading of its avionics systems to allow bigger aircraft to land and take off.[6] Changi Airport Group took over the management of the airport from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore on 1 July 2009.[7]
The airport underwent refurbishment in 2015 as part of plans to relieve pressure on Changi Airport. The plan was to optimise its capacity and move smaller and slower aircraft to the airport.[8]
On 19 May 2016, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Changi Airport Group (CAG) announced that a new passenger terminal building will be built by end 2018. The new passenger terminal building opened its doors on 19 November 2018, replacing the old passenger terminal.[9] The new terminal comes with improved facilities and amenities. The departure area now houses four check-in counters, six immigration lanes, two security screening stations and a gate holdroom that can accommodate 200 passengers. Turboprop aircraft operations will also be shifted from Changi Airport to Seletar Airport, helping to free up capacity for jet aircraft operations at Changi Airport.[10][11][12]
